EFPA was founded in Barcelona with the aim of joining together former player associations from across Europe. With this challenging objective in mind and a small but enthusiastic team, the Foundational Congress of the Sports Group of European Former Football Players Associations (EFPA) was held in Sitges in December 2004 with the participation of 12 founding members from several European countries.

Honourary Council:

Honourary President:
Mr. Michel Platini
Honourary Members:
Mr. Jose Montilla, President of the Catalan Government
Mr. Jordi Hereu, Mayor of Barcelona
Mr. Gilberto Madaíl, President of the Portuguese Football Association
Mr. Giancarlo Abete, President of the Italian Football Association
Mr. Alfredo di Stéfano, Former Real Madrid CFPlayer
Mr. Joan Laporta, President of FC Barcelona
Mr. Pep Guardiola, Former FC Barcelona Player
Mission

EFPA is to seek and foster public, social and institutional recognition of the former player as a piece of living history of European Football as well as for his contribution to the development of European Football Clubs. Furthermore, EFPA is based upon the values of sportsmanship, fair play, solidarity and integration.

The passion for football teams is passed on from father to son, generation after generation. And it was the now former players who planted the seed in most of these parents when they played to consolidate the social and cultural role.

Objectives:

To look after and work for the well-being of former players from the financial, social and health points of view.
To promote friendship and exchange among European Former Player Associations.
To foster sportsmanship and promote social integration through the practise of football.
To promote and spread the values of football and fair play among the young.
